.Abstract
Research into rechargeable sodium–oxygen (Na-O2) and sodium–carbon dioxide (Na-CO2) batteries has been increasing in recent years because of its advantages, such as high theoretical energy density and low cost, as well as the availability of sodium resources. There are still many hurdles to overcome in the early stages of the development of Na-O2 and Na-CO2 batteries, such as poor energy efficiency and short cycle life. Because of this, knowing their working principles and the chemical and electrochemical processes of the electrodes is essential to their practical use and even the objective of real sodium–air batteries." Accordingly, this study focuses on a wide range of topics, including working processes, air cathode materials, sodium anode protection and electrolyte stability in Na-O2 and Na-CO2 battery research. In addition, the remaining concerns and future research prospects are extensively examined and presented
